Thoughtful Thursday: Listening to music

I’ve always enjoyed listening to music. It is one of the guaranteed hobbies I will always have. I prefer the sound of music blasting from my phone’s speaker rather than the empty silence.

Every moment I ask myself: “What do I feel like listening too?” “Am I looking for relaxing music or energetic music?” “What song has been stuck in my head lately?” I finally answer the question and select my playlist, artist, or album. At this stage, I begin my tasks or simply enjoy the music by listening to that one intro that will always be incredible, that one chorus that will always be my favorite or that playlist that always had good memories.

I find music to be the greatest gift to humanity. Sound is what paints the bland canvas that is silence. When in a peaceful moment such as lying in bed and basking in the glow of the globe in my dark room, I prefer calm lo-fi such as Cuco, The 1975, Beach Fossils, and Crumb. In situations where I prefer to listen to upbeat music, I choose bands such as Walk the Moon, Twenty One Pilots, and my playlists.

There will always be a song, band, or playlist that will perfectly fulfill one’s mood. It’s the beauty of listening to music. I always listen to music. When working in class or walking to places I have my preferred playlist playing. When cleaning or studying, one can certainly say I will be listening to music. This means I take great care of my speakers, headphones, and earphones.

My father has always been a music lover. I share the same love of music with him. We have a tradition of sending each other pictures of the songs we listen to. We both share a mutual fondness for bands like Death Cab for Cutie, Twenty One Pilots, and other alternative bands. It’s a sweet little thing as we both like to let each other know what we’re listening to.

I live my life through experiences and moments. The best moments are when I study on Saturday mornings while listening to Expo 86’ by Death Cab for Cutie. The late nights in my bedroom when my globe illuminates the dark room with a purple glow while listening to Sleep Apnea by Beach Fossils. The cold rainy days as I walk to class listening to Letting Go by Wild Nothing. Much of the moments I cherish in life are times when music played in the background.

To all those music lovers who share the same hobby as mine, what are you listening to?
